BIRD Theatre Company TOTTORI

The play is based on a beautiful picture book with striking blue and red colours. Three mysterious black-clad men repeatedly plunder, using their fascinating weapons: an axe, a blunderbuss, and a pepper blower. Their aim seems to have become the act of “collecting wealth” itself. Then they meet a lonely girl and start “sharing the wealth”, which eventually leads to an outcome… First published in 1961 (the Japanese edition published in 1969), this book seems to criticize a capitalist society that is still relevant today. In fact, Ungerer was also a writer of social criticism. It is a deep and gentle story dealing with a challenging subject. This representative repertoire of the BIRD Theatre Company will be presented as an open-air play.
