Republic of the Bees

Shizuoka Performing Arts Center : SPAC
[from Shizuoka, Japan]

Maeterlinck, the author of The Blue Bird, was also a talented beekeeper. Based on his essay, The Life of the Bee, French director Céline Schaeffer vividly depicts a year in the life of mysterious honeybees. In 2020, SPAC created a new version of the play in Japanese, incorporating animation and dance, which was well-received by adults and children alike. A beautiful landscape that changes from season to season and the lives of honeybees that live there await you. The voice of nature invites you to go on an adventure in the hive, “Look closely and carefully, and you’ll see it.”
