This year, BeSeTo Theater Festival and the “BIRD” Theatre Festival will be held together.
BeSeTo Theater Festival has been held alternately in Japan, China and South Korea every year since 1994, no matter how difficult the political situations have been. The “To” of “BeSeTo” originally referred to Tokyo, but Tottori has become the main venue since the last time BeSeTo Theater Festival was held in Japan, so now “To” represents Tottori. While it’s becoming increasingly important for Asian countries to cooperate with each other, our challenge is to bring representative works of performing arts of each country together to connect the hearts of people of the three countries through theatre.
The “BIRD” Theatre Festival is being held for the12th time this year. We’ve invited outstanding and unique theatrical performances from both inside and outside Japan. At the same time, we’ve made connections between theatre and the local community, and theatre and tourism; we’ve engaged in social inclusion from an early stage. This time, we will invite works from countries including Finland and France, which will give you experiences that you can only get here.
The festival will be held for four weekends this year, which is longer than usual. It will be full of enjoyable contents such as performances for children, a cafe, a pop-up shop, programs to experience the local area and so on. From people who want to enjoy theatre to the fullest, to those who just want to drop by, this festival is for everyone.
